August 2010 - The Flags are flying in Ferndown!

Ferndown Upper School textile students have been busy through the summer holidays creating designs and sewing material for a series of brightly colored banners which have been installed around the town.

The first prototypes were placed around Millennium Park and can be seen at the junction of Church Road and Peter Grant Way.

The designs were based on traditional Tibetan Prayer Flags which reflect peace, compassion, strength and wisdom.

The belief is that as the wind passes over the surface of the material, the flags fray and deconstruct and cause the air to be purified and sanctified!

July 2010 - Art4All in Ferndown receives a Big Lottery Grant!

Art4All in Ferndown receive a Big Lottery Grant to help develop the project and purchase goods and materials.

The money will also be used to obtain professional help and advice with the design and creation of three dimensional art forms in the Sculpture Park.

This means work can now start on a number of exciting new projects

June 2010 - Work begins on new Sculpture Park!

Our first living sculpture is being created with help from local residents and the business community.

A large tree trunk and root system has been obtained and will form the base of a design containing plants and ferns.

Professional chainsaw Sculptor, Chris Wood, was commissioned to work with students from Ferndown Upper School to design and create a carved wood planter and a series of tree sculptures.

April 2010 - Ferndown First & Middle School sign up to Art4All!

Local schoolchildren are helping to help create an exciting new Ferndown Frieze to commemorate the 21 years since the Ferndown First School opened its doors to local pupils. A 15 metre banner, in the style of the famous Bayeux Tapestry, is being designed and produced by children with help from the art teacher, Pauline Scott.

Local Ferndown company, CraftSuperstore has kindly donated felt colouring pens and artist materials.

The banner will be put on display in the town centre shortly. Meanwhile, at the Ferndown Middle School, pupils will be working on designs for a series of local wildlife mosaic tiles which will be mounted on a row of new car park markers that will delineate the car parking area outside the school and adjacent to the Ferndown's new Garden of Memories and Sculpture Park in Peter Grant Way.

Local tile specialists, Tiegla Tiles have offered help and support for the project. Two more examples of our community in action to improve the appearance of the town.
